The short version. StixCut has no accounts and no advertising, and it does not track you across other apps or websites. Your designs stay on your computer. The App Store and Microsoft Store editions simply download our announcement feed and send nothing identifying. The direct-download versions also make a small, anonymous check-in that we use to count which versions and platforms are in use, and, along with the Microsoft Store edition, contact our license server when you activate a license.

Who we are

StixCut is made by Art Hax, LLC ("we", "us"). This policy covers the StixCut apps for Mac, Windows, and iPad, including the Mac App Store, iPad, and Microsoft Store editions, and the stixcut.com website. Questions: [email protected].

Your designs and files stay on your device

Images you import, sticker libraries, layouts, cut paths, and exported files are stored on your computer. StixCut does not upload them, and there is no StixCut account or cloud storage. Tracing, layout, and preview all run on your device.

What we do not do

Network requests the apps make

Announcements (all versions)

On launch, StixCut downloads an announcement feed (news, release notes, notices) from stixcut.com and decides on your device which items apply to you. The Mac App Store, iPad, and Microsoft Store editions send nothing with this request: no version, no identifier, no query values. As with any web server, our host receives the IP address of the request, but we do not record it. For these requests we keep only a running count of how many arrive, with no IP address, version, country, or identifier attached. That count tells us roughly how often the store editions are opened, not who opens them. If the request fails, the app simply carries on. Which announcements you have dismissed is stored only on your device.

Anonymous check-ins (direct-download versions only)

The direct-download Mac and Windows versions add a few values to the announcement request so we can count how many people use each version and platform:

We keep a simple record of each check-in: those values, the IP address the request came from, the country that IP address maps to, and the app's user agent. We use these records only to count versions and platforms and to decide when older versions can be retired. We do not use them to identify you, build a profile of you, or sell or share them for advertising.

License activation (direct-download and Microsoft Store versions)

If you buy a license from us and activate it in the direct-download or Microsoft Store version of StixCut, the app sends your license email address, license key, and a device identifier (a random install identifier generated on first run and stored on your device) to our license server (register.stixcut.com). We use them to confirm your license and, for monthly licenses, its status, renewal, and cancellation. The Mac App Store and iPad editions do not use license keys and never contact this server.

Updates

The direct-download Mac version checks stixcut.com for updates using the Sparkle framework, which requests our update feed and downloads the new version if you choose to install it. The Mac App Store, iPad, and Microsoft Store editions are updated by their stores instead.

Links you click

Help, support, journal, and announcement links open in your web browser only when you click them. Those sites have their own privacy practices.

Printers and cutters

StixCut talks to your printer and cutter over USB or Bluetooth Low Energy. That communication is local between your computer and the device. Bluetooth and USB access is used only to find and operate your printer, and nothing from those connections is sent to us.

Purchases

Mac App Store and iPad editions. Purchases (monthly subscription or lifetime unlock) are made through Apple. Apple processes the payment and manages subscriptions, cancellations, and refunds under its own terms and privacy policy. We do not receive your payment details, and we do not collect your Apple Account details. StixCut checks your purchase status on your device through Apple's StoreKit.

Direct-download and Microsoft Store versions. Licenses are sold by StixCut on stixcut.com, not through Microsoft. Payment is processed by Square, which handles your payment details. We receive the information needed to issue your license, such as your email address and order details.

This website

stixcut.com is served through Cloudflare, which, like most hosts, may process basic request data (such as IP address and browser information) to deliver pages and protect the site. We do not run advertising or third-party analytics on the site.

Contact and your choices

Email [email protected] to ask what information we hold about a license or about check-ins from your install identifier (direct-download versions), to correct it, or to ask us to delete it.

Children

StixCut is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes

If we change how StixCut handles data, we will update this page and the date above.
